CONCISE

We make love
as if cameras were rolling
Our eyes closed
to enhance the illusion
I doubt I will remember
the taste of his skin or
smell of his hair
after the sweat dries
and our bodies cool
and I reach for his goodbye
in the thin light of morning

ARABICA

When I ordered my
veggie wrap I always
specify that I do not
want any onions in it
It is the same order
every time I come here
It’s not that I don’t
particularly like onions
I do as long as they
are sautéed or
caramelized & I did
ask for my wrap w/o
them & tipped a buck
& some change for a
$6 at the counter tab
& almost half of the
thing is on my plate
being meticulously
picked out w/obvious
aggravation & I look
up & over to show
the maker my annoyance
& see instead the next
person in line & he’s
an all too noticeable
bodybuilder w/a
shaved head and I
can’t help calm my
anger w/the thought
of it so smooth up my
thighway to Heaven
and bite down on an
undetected onion that
I asked to be left
out of my wrap & it’s
lucky they are red
and almost easy
to see

30th

I got together
w/some old class
mates to plan our
30th reunion &
I tried to remember
if they were in or out
of my clique or if I
even liked them
back in the day or
if I ever did anything
so typical of the us
and then of being a kid
& if I did do they
remember too or
what can I expect
to be said when
we get booze-injected
and brave

At our 10th reunion
someone told me
they had a crush on me
but thought I was too
stuck-up to approach
which just baffled me
because I was really
quite shy until I
got to know someone
& that got me to thinking
of what ifs as I looked
around at those that
shared the table & we
talked about those that
have died & who’s w/who
& about the one who is
now a pedophile & the
one who’s dealing crack
& the other who claims
to be a paid killer or
the ones who found their
gayness & did we already
suspect most of it before
& who’s got what where
& why do I even need to
go to the reunion w/all
these freaks anyway
