ON FAME AND POETRY
WC Williams got an obit |
NO DAY AT THE BEACH
(after mcn) 2 days after the news that a great poet had died, a day at the beach that was no day at the beach and I am thinking about my father, heart attacks strokes family history and the fifty extra pounds I carry sweating running, gasping 3 blocks from the boardwalk in 90- degree heat (a 7 tanning index) to the parking meter so I can refill it before it's tagged by police when I realize someone has beaten me to it-- a note scrawled on my filthy windshield: "Don't mention it." Kind of got me thinking. | |||
