I am a software exec. and I do secret internet foo. I live near Boston, Massachusetts and spend a lot of time in San Francisco.
I began writing poetry a few years ago in a brave but ultimately feckless attempt to stave off a canonical entrapment breakdown.
I sometimes write with a pseudonym: Yorick_Nixon. I also write music and play musical instruments. I was a member of Boston noise band Inner Beauty and San Francisco improv combo Senator Buchanon. With the members of Inner Beauty I co-authored a pre-web internet published dystopic novel entitled "Skunk Angst".
Any spare time I have I read Shakespeare or listen to Bach. Bach seems to be the one thing all nerds agree on. I've lost touch with my culture. Though my friend Janet has turned me onto Cat Power. My only firmly held cultural belief is that Chan Marshall of Cat Power is kind of a babe. |
• What do you do for a living?
Internet foobar. Currently working on a business plan to launch what I'm calling the 'dot-bong' economy. • Who are your favorite artists?
Poetry: Shakespeare. Also, at the moment John Donne, Charles Simic, James Tate, Miss Lesley
Fiction: Joyce, Tolstoy, Proust, Singer
Music: J.S. Bach. Also, at the moment Olivier Messiaen, Chan Marshall, Capt. Beefheart, Burt Bachrach, Poppy Girl
Painting: Blake, Bacon and those Dutch geniuses Vermeer and Van Vliet • What influences you to write about/how you do?
In poems I use private imagery to construct a topo map of my psyche, my peculiar wiring. I think it's a very interior, narcissistic kind of writing about which I have regrets. • Where do you see the underground writing scene in 25 years?
In 25 years we'll have reached the "monadic deadlock," a cultural saturation point where technology will have made the means of production and distribution so cheap and democratized that everyone will be emitting and few if any will be receiving. 1. I haven't yet sent out a nude cam shot of myself to all my friends.
2. In high school I used to sit at the top of my beloved maple tree and watch the Atlantic ocean. I'd imagine just letting go and seeing where and how i bounced as gravity took over. So one time I did it. The fall was broken many times by friendly branches and I landed bruised, but unbroken. Now you know.. |
