Dan Sicoli hasn’t played guitar in years, hasn’t cleaned the car in months, hasn’t cut his hair since last fall, but he has managed to take out the garbage and wash the dishes. He is co-founder and co-editor of Slipstream Magazine and Press in Niagara Falls-Apart, NY.
Other recent work has appeared in print with Serving_Suggestion, Heeltap, Bathtub Gin, Chiron Review, and Bender; and, electronically, with Disquieting Muses, Naked Poetry, Interweave, Thunder Sandwich, Bulk Head, Ragged Edge, Stirring, and Erosha. In 1999, he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

Slipstream review with basinski

• What do you do for a living?
I'm a letter carrier.
• Who are your favorite artists?

Artistically, the works of the following individuals (in no particular order) have sparked the ignition: Shakespeare, Bukowski, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Gerald Locklin, E.R. Baxter III, e.e. cummings, Dali, John Coltrane, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Vonnegut, John Fante, Steinbeck, the Beatles, Muddy Waters.
• What influences you to write about/how you do?
It doesn't come from one specific source. I think that’s what keeps me interested—-always a sudden turn, always seeking new inspiration—-which comes from surprising and sometimes strange places. I might pick up a line in a conversation or read something on the label of a can of soup or misinterpret a lyric from a song or see something painted on a passing truck or return to an old poem I’d written and take it in a totally new direction—-all these scenarios have sparked poems. Of course, the work generally relates to life somehow, on some level. Then again, real life is full of poems--many times they just present themselves--you need to only stop and put the words down.
• Where do you see the underground writing scene in 25 years?
I have no idea. I'm no visionary. It's already become quite deluded. With the advance of technology, it seems to be too easy these days to put something out. Is that a good thing? I haven't decided on that one yet.
• from cait - describe yourself -all the way up til this day -every deTALE ..heh.. AND just for fun...what would you do for a klondike bar...be clever.. beera -
probably seek pleasurable things too often and ignore or put off the stuff I find distasteful.

Fuck Klondike bars, fuck commercialism, fuck slogans, fuck corporate American, fuck market profiling, fuck mass media, fuck mass marketing, fuck mass, fuck television, fuck Hollywood blockbusters, fuck big book chains, fuck big tobacco, fuck the chemical industry, fuck fast food, fuck petty politics, fuck...well, just fill in the rest yourself
