Mark:

I was born October 21, 1953, Covina, California.  My family was blown off our Kansas farm in 1940 wound up in California as part of the Dustbowl migration -- we're Okies.  I grew up mostly in Riverside, Cucamonga, Upland, Fontana, Fresno, (we moved around a lot), Okiesville, etc.   We're Ulster-Scots. And before that: Celts. Before that: Neanderthal.  Before that: microbes.   I was conscripted in my teens to play guitar with my grandfather who was a honky tonker. In high school I was the singer in a rock & roll band. I wasn't out-going enough to be a good singer, but there I was. The onliest collitch schooling I did was a bunch of piano classes and a few music theory classes. I went straight to the jazz clubs around Los Angeles for most of my learning.   Published my first poem in the high school paper.Been publishing ever since. Left southern California 1986 and moved to Redding, California, 800 miles north. From there moved to Cleveland for 3 years. Then over to Salt Lake City for 2 years. Then, 1991 moved to Albuqerque, New Mexico where we been ever since. I do a jazz radio show on KUNM (streaming on the web >  kunm.org) every Thursday afternoon.  I paint houses in the meantime and play with my country band the Bubbadinos.
